NOTE: Text in note reads: “ … pagará a J.G.Ord o al portador …” We were not able to decipher the meaning of the phrase. Any information about will be welcome.
This 5 Pesos note was part of the issue by the Aguan Navigation & Improvement Company, a U.S.-based enterprise operating in Trujillo, Honduras under government concession. The note features General Luis Bográn, then President of Honduras, whose portrait appeared while still in office—a rare occurrence in Latin American numismatics. The bilingual inscriptions reflect the company’s international scope and its role in regional infrastructure. Despite initial success, the company faced financial challenges and ceased operations within a few years. The note’s reverse emphasizes its acceptance for debts and transport services, payable in U.S. silver coin.
