Part of a set of replica Ancient British coins available from Glendinning Associates, International Consultants Ltd. 1971.
Text for this coin reads:
British Gold Stater (c. 10-40 AD)
In time British tribes copied coins brought in by settlers from Southern Belgium. The coin shown was produced by Cunobelin (10-40 AD) better known as Shakespeare's Cymbeline, the powerful chief of the Catuvellauni tribe of central England. His signature CUN appears under the prancing horse on the obverse, while the reverse bears an ear of corn and the letters CAMV (Colchester) where the coin was minted. These coins were still in common circulation at the time of Boadicea, Queen of the Iceni, who led the revolt against the Romans in AD 61.
