Johann Christoph Friedrich von Schiller (niemiecki: [ˈjoːhan ˈkʁɪstɔf ˈfʁiːdʁɪç fɔnˈʃɪlɐ], skrót: [ˈfʁiːdʁɪç ˈʃɪlɐ] ⓘ; 10 listopada 1759 - 9 maja 1805) był niemieckim dramaturgiem, poetą, filozofem i historykiem. Schiller jest uważany przez większość Niemców za najważniejszego niemieckiego dramaturga klasycznego.
Urodził się w Marbach w pobożnej protestanckiej rodzinie. Początkowo przeznaczony do stanu duchownego, w 1773 r. wstąpił do akademii wojskowej w Stuttgarcie, a ostatecznie studiował medycynę. Jego pierwsza sztuka, The Robbers, została napisana w tym czasie i okazała się bardzo udana. Po krótkim okresie pracy jako lekarz pułkowy opuścił Stuttgart i ostatecznie trafił do Weimaru. W 1789 r. został profesorem historii i filozofii w Jenie, gdzie pisał prace historyczne.
