This coin features the Kakapo bird, also called the owl parrot, which is a species of large, flightless, nocturnal, ground-dwelling parrot of the super-family Strigopoidea, endemic to New Zealand. It has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, and relatively short wings and tail.
The coin was issued individually in a coincard. (2,000 copies)

It was also included in the 6 coin Uncirculated Year Set. (2,000 copies)
