The NATIONAL BANK IN THE KINGDOM OF ITALY is the name that the National Bank of the Sardinian States took on in 1861, which incorporated both the Bank of Parma and the Bank of the Four Legations, furthermore the Banca Nazionale Toscana was also present and the following year the Bank was born Tuscany Credit Bank. Both were authorized by the State to issue banknotes. The main activity of the NATIONAL BANK and of the smaller regional issuing institutions was to collect deposits, issue securities, make advances and discount the drafts that were presented by bankers and small local banks or by important companies, as well as, fixing the interest rates of this discount, to influence the cost of money in general. The spread of the branches of the NATIONAL BANK contributed to significantly strengthening the banking system aimed at supporting businesses, already present in Genoa, Milan, Turin, Florence and Livorno, but rather weakly structured in many Italian cities. In the following years, two other banking institutions obtained authorization to issue banknotes; to be precise, in 1866 the Banco di Napoli and the following year also the Banco di Sicilia. Finally, in 1870, three years later, the old Banca Romana, also obtaining the issuing permit from the State, took the name of Banca dello Stato Pontificio.

The series consists of 50,000 tickets and the letters used in the series number are 24.
