Niedźwiedź jest kalamburem na Berndorff (Bärendorff - wioska niedźwiedzi), a także częścią logo firmy. Berndorff znajduje się w Austrii, jest własnością Arthura, syna patriarchy Hermanna. Specjalnością fabryki były sztućce imitujące srebro.
Koncern Krupp w Niemczech (nie to samo, co zakład Berndorffer) był głównym filarem nazistowskiego przemysłu wojennego. Wykorzystywał niewolniczą siłę roboczą.
