Imię to odpowiada Rodbertusowi, mężowi Pepina. Zmarły przed 764 r., jest pierwszym znanym członkiem rodziny Robertian. K. F. Werner zaproponował identyfikację z Chrodebertusem, hrabią w Hesbaye (między Namur i Liège), wspomnianym w 741 roku. Werner wykazał, że Chrod jest identyczny z Rot i odpowiada Rot-bert (Robert), imieniu używanemu w każdym pokoleniu przez jego potomków.
