(en) The head of Saint Martin appeared on the coins of Tours in 919, probably to commemorate the solemn transfer of the body of the apostle from Gaul to the newly rebuilt basilica, in May 919 (Dumas, p. 194). For fear of the Normans, the workshop then had to be moved to Chinon, where these coins at the Tours-Chinon type were struck. The coin bonds observed on the coinage of Chinon and Orleans prove that these different issues were made under the authority of Robert, Marquis of Neustria, of which Orleans was the capital.
