Eudes był synem Huguesa IV, księcia Burgundii. W 1247 r. poślubił Mahaut, hrabinę Nevers. Z tego związku urodziły się trzy córki: Yolande, która odziedziczyła hrabstwo Nevers po śmierci matki (1262), Marguerite, która odziedziczyła hrabstwo Tonnerre i Alix, która odziedziczyła hrabstwo Auxerre.
