W latach 1848-1850 Adolphe-Christian Jouvenel wygrawerował i opublikował w Brukseli kolekcję 25 medali z brązu w modułach 46 mm przedstawiających portrety "wielkich ludzi Belgii". W tamtym czasie każdy medal był sprzedawany za 4 franki belgijskie.
Wygrawerowano również żetony z brązu lub mosiądzu o wymiarach 34 mm odtwarzające niektóre z tych medali, aby zgodnie z ówczesnym prospektem udostępnić tę publikację każdemu po bardziej demokratycznej cenie 50 centymów.
