(en) The Portuguese Way to Santiago is a pilgrimage route that began in the 9th century when the tomb of the Apostle Santiago Maior, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, was discovered.
In 814 a Galician hermit named Pelaio followed a revelation he had had in his sleep and discovered a tomb containing relics. These were immediately venerated and associated with Santiago, thanks to the legend that he had traveled to Spain to bear witness to Christ. Over the tomb, the magnificent Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela was to be built. This €0 banknote, launched at the Atlantic Alpen Adria, pays homage to all the pilgrims who travel hundreds of kilometers on foot, just as they have done for hundreds of years, to adore the Saint who is, curiously, patron of the Portuguese and Spanish armies.
