Comments

(en) According to Jézéquel, it is probably a clumsiness of engraving than a voluntary distinction. This type has many variations ranging from a quarter to a third of the field in which the squares of the checkerboard overlap for lack of space instead of being aligned as in Bigot's reproduction.
