500 Kroner Substitution note

Signatures
Left signature is always ”Chefen for Seddelfaget”(Head of Notes). For this Note it is Svendsen for 1944, Halberg for 1945-48 and Riim for 1948-62. The Right signature changes and is always one of the Head Clerks.

Printer:

The year 1944 of this note is presumably printed by Egmont printing, but the signatures and security numbers are printed by the National Bank of Denmark.

The series:

During the Second World War, this series was prepared under the uter most secrecy, to replace the Heilmann types, as soon as the occupying forces left.

This was done to combat the wast amount of wealth some people had amased as colaborators, reveal the black markets sellers and cancel any notes the Germans may have taken woth them out of the country.

Some people suspected the exchange was comming and also that it was only going to affect the notes. So those with the suspicion of the exchange cashed in their notes for the yellow 1 and 2 Kroner coins. In the countryside milk jugs were used to hold all the coins.

When the changeover begun people also had to meet up at the bank and account for monay and security papers.

In the end, 20% of the country's wealth wasn't accountet for to the tax authorities (skattevæsnet), which is around 70 000 Kroner in banknotes.

In total a 2 000 million Danish Kroner of which hadn't been taxed before were discovered.

The motive:
Because of the motif this note and all 500 kroner notes since type I have been nicknamed "En Plovmand"/a ploughman.
The artist says the farmer was named Ernst Boock, and the horses Asta and Hertha.
