Po raz pierwszy wyemitowany 16 stycznia 1978 roku. Przestał być prawnym środkiem płatniczym w 2000 r., kiedy Bank Centralny Republiki Chińskiej (Tajwanu) przejął zadanie emisji banknotów Nowego Dolara Tajwańskiego, a wszystkie banknoty Banku Tajwanu zostały wycofane z obiegu.
