Ta seria banknotów była pierwszą zwykłą serią, w której wszystkie banknoty zawierały Nynorsk (nowy norweski, oparty na konserwatywnych dialektach. This serie of banknote was the first ordinary serie with all the notes featuring Nynorsk (new Norwegian, which is based on conservative dialects. In contrast to Bokmål (book language) which is based on Danish). The contrast is in Bokmål the word Norway's is “Norges” and in Nynorsk it is “Noregs”.

This serie of banknotes was very much driven by a need for additional security, but also by the increased use of ATMs and vending machines. The new needs for security set limits for the artists. In this serie the 200 Kroner note was introduced for the first time as well.
