Tecun Uman is a largely legendary figure from 16th century Guatemala. He is said to have been the last ruler of the K'iche' Maya, killed in battle against conquistador Pedro de Alvarado. He is the official national hero of Guatemala.

Tikal is one of the largest pre-Columbian Mayan cities and Temple I is one of its largest structures. It was constructed as a funerary temple for Jasaw Chan K'awiil I who ruled Tikal from 682 to 734.
