Seria ta została wprowadzona do obiegu 13 grudnia 1965 roku. Ponieważ rupia została zdewaluowana tylko około 10, a nie 1000 razy, drobne banknoty były bezwartościowe w momencie emisji, a zatem miliony banknotów o niższych nominałach z tej serii nigdy nie weszły do obiegu.
