"Można by się wahać, czy przypisać te oczka raczej Eudesowi IV niż Filipowi de Rouvres, współczesnemu Janowi Dobremu. Ale królewskie ogniwa wydane za panowania Jana Dobrego mają obramowanie z jedenastu lilii; od 1351 r. ich tytuł został obniżony do 369 ‰; ich teoretyczna waga 1,69 g nie została osiągnięta przez żaden ze znalezionych przykładów. Legenda odpowiada argumentom przeciwstawionym przez księcia mnichom z Saint-Bénigne przed 1329 rokiem: non ponitur nomen ducis sed ibi dignitas comitis. Te emisje pochodzą z lat 1327-1330".
