W Essex wyemitowano wiele XVII-wiecznych żetonów handlowych, z których prawie trzy czwarte stanowiły farthingi. Nie było żadnych żetonów miejskich, wszystkie żetony były produkowane przez kupców i znany jest tylko jeden typ dla małego miasta Chipping Ongar.
