Oblężenie Munster, które trwało od lipca 1660 r. do marca 1661 r., było wynikiem tego, że władze miasta chciały utrzymać swoje przywileje obywatelskie przeciwko uzurpacji biskupa Christophera Bernhardta z Gelen. Mieli oni klucze do miasta i kontrolę nad garnizonem, co było kwestionowane przez biskupa. Magistraty odwołały się do Holendrów i otrzymały 10 000 talarów na dofinansowanie oblężenia, ale ostatecznie musiały się poddać, ponieważ nie było już żadnego wsparcia z zewnątrz.
