Lettering:
4004 YEARS
BEFORE CHRIST
IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED
THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH, AND THE
EARTH WAS WITHOUT FORM, AND VOID.
ON THE 1st DAY GOD CREATED LIGHT AND
DARKNESS, WHICH HE CALLED DAY AND NIGHT.
ON THE 2nd DAY GOD MADE THE FIRMAMENT,
AND DIVIDED THE WATERS WHICH WERE UNDER
IT, FROM THE WATERS WHICH WERE ABOVE IT.
AND THE FIRMAMENT HE CALLED HEAVEN.
ON THE 3rd DAY GOD GATHER'D TOGETHER Ye WATERS
WHICH HE CALL'D SEA, & Ye DRY LAND HE CALL'D EARTH.
ON THE 4th DAY GOD MADE TWO GREAT LIGHTS, THE
SUN TO RULE THE DAY, AND THE MOON TO RULE THE
NIGHT. HE MADE THE STARS ALSO.
ON THE 5th DAY GOD CREATED THE FISHES OF THE
SEA, AND EVERY WINGED FOWL OR WINGED CREATURE
WHICH FLY ABOVE THE EARTH.
ON THE 6th DAY GOD MADE THE BEASTS AND CATTLE &
EVERY CREEPING THING WHICH CREEPETH UPON Ye EARTH.
ON THE 7th DAY GOD RESTED AND BLESSED THE
7th DAY, AND SANCTIFIED IT.
AND THE LORD GOD FORM'D MAN OF THE DUST OF
THE GROUND, AND BREATH'D INTO HIS NOSTRILS
THE BREATH OF LIFE, AND MAN BECAME A LIVING
SOUL. IN THE IMAGE OF GOD CREATED HE HIM
AND GAVE HIM DOMINION OVER ALL THE
EARTH. AND THE LORD GOD PLANTED A
GARDEN EASTWARD IN EDEN, AND
THERE HE PUT THE MAN WHOM HE
HAD FORMED, TO DRESS IT
AND KEEP IT.

Comments

(en) An original Thomason’s Medallic Illustration of the Holy Scriptures [Bible], Number 1 - Adam gave names to every beast of the field and fowl of the air. After Paolo Veronese. (Thomason D. at lower obverse rim).
The Thomason Medallic Bible is a set of sixty medals struck in 1830 that captures the essence of the entire Holy Bible in medallic art. The obverse designs were inspired by the works of well-known Renaissance artists and executed by several different engravers. The reverse of each medal contains a dense text quotation or explanation describing the topic of each medal. The set was produced in Birmingham, England by Sir Edward Thomason, who felt divinely inspired to “promote the glory of God by impressing the word of God upon gold, silver and other indestructible metals”. Birmingham, England, c. 1830.
