Mahadji Shinde (Scindia). He acted as the Vakil-i-Mutlaq (Regent/Plenipotentiary) for the Mughal Emperor on behalf of the Peshwa.
The Marathas managed to occupy old Dehli on 28 September 1788. They along with Begum Samru and Ismail Beg, who had turned now to side with the Marathas, mounted an offensive which the Rohillas could not withstand. On 10 October 1788, Ghalam Qadir with the Rohilla troop abandoned the Red Fort. Dehli was secured by the Marathas for the fifth and last time. Till the British took over Dehli on 11 September 1803 ending the Maratha domination in Upper Hindustan.
This rupee is in fact a Maratha issue and not a B.E.I.C-issue.
