Moneta 12-lecia Izraela uhonorowała 100. rocznicę urodzin Teodora Herzla, stulecie Herzla.
"Jeśli naród żydowski tego zapragnie, będzie miał własne państwo", napisał Benjamin Ze'ev Herzl w swojej książce "Państwo żydowskie". Rozbudził zbiorową wolę narodu i wzniósł marzenia o odkupieniu na drogę do politycznej realizacji. We wrześniu 1897 r. Herzl napisał: "W Bazylei założyłem państwo żydowskie. Być może za pięć lat, ale z pewnością za 50 lat, wszyscy będą o tym przekonani". 29 listopada 1947 roku, dokładnie pięćdziesiąt lat później, Zgromadzenie Ogólne Narodów Zjednoczonych przyjęło rezolucję zalecającą utworzenie niepodległego państwa żydowskiego.

He aroused the collective will of a nation and raised the dreams of redemption on the road to political realization. In September 1897 Herzl wrote: "In Basel I founded the Jewish State. Perhaps in five years, but certainly in 50 years, everyone will be convinced of this." On November 29, 1947, exactly fifty years later, the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution recommending the establishment of an independent Jewish State.
