(en) Jethou is in the Channel Islands, located about 500 yards (460m.) south of Herm. The 44-acre (18ha) island shows signs of occupation since around 10,000BC. It has been used by Vikings, monks and smugglers. Since 1416 it has been a crown estate. It is now is part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It has been closed to the public since 1970 and is leased to the owner of a major British computer firm. There is one house, two cottages and a large garage on the island.
