Ludwik XII, urodzony 27 czerwca 1462 r. w Château de Blois i zmarły 1 stycznia 1515 r. w Paryżu, nazywany "Ojcem Ludu" przez Estates General z 1506 r., był królem Francji w latach 1498-1515. Podczas swojego panowania musiał poradzić sobie z wojnami włoskimi, zwłaszcza trzecią i czwartą, które zakończyły się zwycięstwem pod Marignan w 1515 r., a na froncie wewnętrznym z reformą wymiaru sprawiedliwości i podatków. Jego wizerunek był kultywowany po jego śmierci jako symbol umiarkowanej monarchii, opartej na Estates General, w przeciwieństwie do monarchii absolutnej.
