Ebenezer oznacza "pomocą jest kamień". Określenie to pochodzi z Biblii (1 Księga Samuela 7.12), gdzie po zwycięstwie Izraelitów nad Filistynami czytamy: "Wtedy Samuel wziął kamień i ustawił go między Mizpah a Shen. Nazwał go Ebenezer, mówiąc: "Jak dotąd Pan nam pomógł"".
