(en) According to an edict of June 1640, these older worn coins were authorized to be counterstamped with a punch displaying a fleur-de-lis within a beaded oval. This revalued a 12 denier piece to 15 deniers and were often sent to the colonies of New France, Louisiana , and the West Indies.
