urodził się 6 października 1888 r. w Saint-Denis de La Réunion i zginął w bitwie powietrznej 5 października 1918 r. w Vouziers w Ardenach.
Jego sława wynikała przede wszystkim z jego sportowych wyczynów w powietrzu, zwłaszcza pierwszego w historii przelotu nad Morzem Śródziemnym, którego dokonał 23 września 1913 r. w jednopłatowcu.
