Centule III (1012-1058) otrzymał od księcia Akwitanii Sancho Wielkiego suwerenność kraju i uzurpował sobie prawo do bicia monet.
W rzeczywistości produkcja monet (oboli i denarów) nie rozpoczęła się przed 1080 r. pod rządami Centula IV (1058-1088), który przyjął tytuł hrabiego. Centul V zmarł w 1134 roku. Produkcja monet była jednak kontynuowana przez prawie 200 lat.
